The Venerable Nedo Kuchung Rinpoche is the sixth reincarnation in the supreme Nedo Kagyu lineage. The Fifth Ven. Nedo Rinpoche, Pema Lhundup, was the foremost disciple of the great scholar and siddha Karma Pema Chagme (Ragha Akse). He was a great Lama, unequaled in kindness, and an accomplished meditator, having realized the highest stage of Mahamudra and Maha Ati and realizing their view and intentions. Not long after his death, his cousin, the supreme incarnation Dechen Nyingpo, who was also from the tribe of Kham Nangchen, built the first Nedo Sanghag Chindu Dhargeling Monastery in lower Gegyel in Kham, Eastern Tibet. There, the Karma Kamtsang and the Nedo Kagyu tradition flourished under the supervision of the Monastery's Three Seat-holders: Dechen Nyingpo Rinpoche, Chod La Pema Dondrup Rinpoche, and Nedo Kuchung Rinpoche. The monastery had at one time more than 300 monks.

The present Nedo Kuchung Rinpoche was born to Gandir and Yangchen on August 2, 1962 in Pema Thang, in the Himalayas. There were many wonderful signs during his birth. In 1972, at the age of 10, His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje recognized him as the incarnation of the Fifth Nedo Rinpoche
Shedrub Nyedun Chokyi Sengge and gave him the name Karma Thinley Yongdu Kunchab Palzangpo. The same year, in Tashi Jong in the Himachal Pradesh province in North-west India, His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, the Crown Jewel in the non-sectarian movement Rime, also formally recognized him and offered him the
robes and his title.

When he was 14 years old, he took the novice monk's vows (Gelsun) and was given the name Karma Tenpe Gyaltsen. Four years later, he went to Lhadak Monastery
in Thubten Chokhor Ling on the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa's behalf. There he stayed for three years, taking care of the monastery and its monks and giving teachings and
initiations to the lay people in the area.

During his three-year stay in Lhadak, healso received many valuable teachings and initiations from Ven. Tsurpu Dupon Dechen Rinpoche. He took full ordination vows at the age of 21 from his main teachers, H.H. the 16th Karmapa, H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Ven. Riwa Saljay Rinpoche, Ven. Urgyen Tulku, and many other
learned rinpoches. He received from them many teachings on both the old and new traditions, instructions, reading transmissions, and empowerments.

In 1982, at the age of 23, he went back to Rumtek Monastery to go on his three-year retreat. Under the guidance of the retreat master, Ven. Bokar Rinpoche, he practiced the Tantras of Marpa's traditions, the six yoga's of Naropa, and the Mahamudra. He also received the ordinary and extraordinary initiations, oral transmissions and Mahamudra, and Maha Ati's quintessential teachings, thus gaining not only complete understanding but also realization of these teachings.

At the age of 25, coming out from his successful retreat, the Four Eminence Rinpoches, in compliance with the wishes of late 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, designated and enthroned him as the Vajra Master (Dorji Lopon) of Dharma Chakra Centre, Rumtek Monastery, Sikkim, a position he holds until the present.

In this present life of Nedo Rinpoche, he is heartly engaged in doing many social and religious activities in Rumtek, Sikkim, as well as all over the world for the benefit of all sentient beings.

In 2004, Rinpoche thought of making his own monastery—a duty all Rinpoches undertake in order to continue their lineage. With the support of his many disciples in the Philipines and other countries, he was able to convert his residence into a monastery. The Nedo Chedu Chokhorling Monastery's activities and operations are now at full swing with the assistance of Lama Choyeng and Lama Phurpa. His main center in Asia, the Philippine Nedo Foundation, is being taken care of by his brother, Lama Pema Techog, since 1995.

After the parinirvana of H.H. the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa and H.H. the late Shamar Rinpoche, the second highest in the Kagyu lineage to the Karmapa, Nedo Rinpoche has dutifully followed their instruction and guidance in serving the Karma Kagyu Lineage up to the present.
